Yoga on the Ball
Improve posture, Core Stability, balance, Coordination

Why Yoga on the Ball?

Picture
The exercise ball adds many advantages to your yoga practice, aiding in posture and core stability, motor control, balance and coordination, and stretching. It's a great way of adding interest, variety and fun to your yoga practice.
The exercise ball challenges your equilibrium because it is an unstable surface. You can sit, lie, or place your feet on top of the ball to create instability. Just sitting on it requires continual adjustments; the ball activates the muscles of your feet, legs, hips, and spine in order to maintain your balance. It can also be a great support for some delicious yoga backbends and aid stretching.

Try Yoga on the Ball 2012

Saturday 24th March 2012
Time: 10.00am-12.00 midday
At Radbrook Community Centre SY3 6DZ
Cost: £12.00

By the end of the session you will be able to incorporate yoga on the ball exercises into your home yoga practice.

What do I need to bring?

Please bring with you: a yoga mat, an exercise ball, and two 1 kg handweights.

Exercise balls and hand weights can easily be bought on line.
Amazon sells both fairly cheaply. Go for an anti-burst ball with pump.

The correct ball size is based on your height and the length of your legs- when you sit on the ball, your hips and knees should be bent at 90-degree angles.
The following guidelines indicate the approximate size of ball to choose, according to your height:

55cm if you're 5 feet tall or under
65cm if you're between 5 feet and 5 ft 7 inches
75 cm if you're between 5 ft 8 inches and 6 ft 2 inches
85cm if you're over 6 ft 2 inches

The sizes are only approximate as a lot depends on the length of your legs.

As for hand weights, go for 1kg with either vinyl or neoprene coating. Or alternatively you could bring with you two small water bottles to use as weights.

Who is the course for?

Picture
The course is for all yoga students who wish to learn how to incorporate an exercise ball into their yoga practice. Both experienced students, and students fairly new to yoga are welcome to join me. However this course is not suitable for complete beginners, or those with balance problems.
